Live Coverage: All eyes on Drake Maye as Patriots face Jaguars in Week 3

That question came up again and again this week to Mike Vrabel, various New England Patriots players and MassLive's reporters.

After two weeks where the Patriots quarterback has not looked like the MVP candidate that he was last year, all eyes are on Maye as New England plays the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 1 p.m.

0:49 — The Patriots are called for a neutral zone infraction. Things are getting ugly for New England ahead of halftime.

Drake Maye is intercepted in the end zone by Travis Hunter . Another bad decision by the quarterback. Another drive crushed where the Patriots had the momentum.

1:02 — A handoff to Rhamondre Stevenson gets the Patriots closer to the end zone.

It's 3rd-and-goal as Jacksonville takes its final timeout of the first half.

1:05 — The Jaguars call a timeout as the Patriots threaten to get back in this game.

1:11 — Drake Maye fumbled but recovered. It's 1st-and-goal.

2:41 — Drake Maye was very close to getting intercepted.

A flag is thrown for holding on the Jaguars. Automatic first down for the Patriots.

3:00 — Drake Maye connects with Pop Douglas for 38 yards. Great pass protection on that play.

4:23 TOUCHDOWN — Trevor Lawrence connects with old friend Jakobi Meyers for a 10-yard touchdown.

Greg Van Roten has a thigh injury and is questionable to return.

9:09 — SCORE UPDATE: Jaguars 7, Patriots 3

The Patriots settled for a 35-yard field goal from Andy Borregales .

9:12 — Greg Van Roten, who's filling in for the injured Mike Owenu, was being tended to by the trainers after the last play.

9:12 — Mack Hollins had the touchdown in his hands but was unable to reel the ball in on third down.

10:22 — You don't see that every day! Drake Maye threw the ball for Efton Chism for a double pass. But he was nearly tackled and disaster looked like it was going to strike. Chism got the ball out of his hands before he went out of bounds and into the hands of Mack Hollins.

10:51 — Drake Maye connects with Romeo Doubs , but another offensive penalty — this time pass interference — negates the completion.

10:57 — Drake Maye runs into the end zone, but a holding call on Morgan Moses wipes out the 21-yard play that would have been a touchdown.

INTERCEPTION! The Patriots needed something to go their way and Marcus Jones comes up with an interception. It's the first takeaway of the game.

INJURY UPDATE: Christian Barmore is questionable to return with a shoulder injury.

11:58 — Drake Maye barely makes it back to the line of scrimmage on third down as the Jaguars make a stop and get the ball back.

13:25 — TOUCHDOWN: Trevor Lawrence finds Josh Cameron who scores the first touchdown of the game.

13:30 — Carlton Davis has a big stop on Ameer Abdullah .

END OF FIRST QUARTER: Patriots 0, Jaguars 0

1:30 — Gabe Jacas continues to be a bright spot for the Patriots.

3:53 — Drake Maye loses the ball and it's recovered by the Jags.

The ball just slipped out of the quarterback's hands. Brutal end to a drive where New England looked to have some momentum going and was in field goal position.

5:00 — Mack Hollins looks like Drake Maye's favorite target early on in the game.

Christian Gonzalez looked to be getting some attention on the sideline after his tackle. But it appears he's OK.

8:01 — Christian Gonzalez makes a stop with a tackle on third down.

10:20 — Drake Maye throws an incomplete pass meant for Hunter Henry on 4th-and-9. The Jags will get the ball back.

13:51 — Trevor Lawrence is short of the first down on 3rd-and-8. The Jaguars will punt and the Patriots will get the ball for the first time this afternoon.

14:50 — Jose Ramirez, who's playing in his first regular-season game since 2024, makes an immediate impact for the Patriots with a tackle on the opening kickoff.

15:00 — The Patriots kick off to begin the game

On his second defensive snap in Foxborough, the rookie had put a future Hall of Famer on the ground. Jacas then helped Rodgers up, and the two exchanged helmet taps. In the crowd, Khaliq Jacas smiled.

"It's exciting to see for sure, but it's not a surprise on my end," said Khaliq, Gabe's older brother. "(It's not) like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe he's doing this.' I knew he was gonna do it."

But not long ago, Khaliq was the only one who envisioned his younger brother as an NFL player — including Gabe himself.
