After losing to Kentucky in overtime, where did LSU football land in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll? Find out here
The calendar hasn't reached mid-October yet and LSU football is currently sitting with two losses on the 2026 season.
First-year Lane Kiffin and the Tigers (4-2, 1-2 SEC) dropped their second Southeastern Conference game of the season at Kentucky in overtime, 35-34, inside Kroger Field Saturday, Oct. 10.
LSU led for 9:41 of the final 9:42 of regulation before the Wildcats booted a 33-yard field goal to tie the game up and send it to the extra period.
Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt scored on a 15-yard run on the first possession to overtime to give LSU the brief lead. But on Kentucky's ensuing series, it punched it in to pull within one and first-year coach Will Stein elected to go for the win. Wildcats quarterback Kenny Minchey was able to easily score on the two-point conversion to put the game away.
LSU football trails Kentucky in fourth quarter
How far did LSU fall in the rankings following the ranked loss to the Wildcats? Kentucky was ranked No. 25 in last week's coaches poll so the loss by Kiffin's bunch will be perceived as a "good loss."
In this week's US LBM Coaches Poll, LSU dropped 11 spots to No. 21 from No. 10. The Tigers were the biggest stumblers this week in the coaches poll.
The tough stretch continues for the Tigers as they play host to old rival No. 19 Mississippi State (4-1, 2-1), who will be coming into next weekend's showdown off an off week. The game against the Bulldogs will be the second ranked matchup in as many weeks and fourth in the last five weeks for LSU.
