Southern Nazarene football player dies after injury
Southern Nazarene University sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich has died following an injury sustained during a game.
A Southern Nazarene University football player seriously injured in a game last weekend has died, the university announced Thursday afternoon.
Sophomore safety Tyler Ulrich , 21, suffered an undisclosed injury during a game at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and was transported to a hospital on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Ulrich was a 5-foot-10, 200-pound sophomore from Azle, Texas. He joined the Division II program in Bethany out of high school.
SNU President Dr. Keith Newman shared the following message:
"Earlier today, Tyler Ulrich, a beloved member of our SNU football team and student body, passed away. Tyler sustained a traumatic injury during last Saturday's football game. Since that time, he has been in the hospital, continually surrounded by the love, prayers, and presence of his family, teammates, and dear friends.
"As our students, faculty, and staff gathered together on Tuesday for our campus-wide prayer chapel, we anchored our hearts in the truths of Psalm 62—reminding ourselves that "my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my refuge, I will never be shaken." In this moment of deep grief, we lean into that very rock and source of comfort.
"Please keep Tyler's family, teammates, coaches, and friends in your continued prayers during this unimaginably difficult time. Our Renew Counseling Center and Campus Pastors are available for our campus community who need assistance to process this sorrow.
"May God's peace and comfort be with us all."
