One 15-year-old male was arrested following spectator fights at the Oct. 2 football game between Buchtel and Firestone, according to the Akron Police Department.
Around 7:40 p.m. officers responded to Ellet's Joseph B. Yost Stadium after receiving reports of fights breaking out. Several units were needed to disperse the crowd of juveniles as multiple fights continued to start, according to Akron police Lt. Michael Murphy.
The teen was transported to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of disorderly conduct, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. There were no reported injuries.
Officials canceled the remainder of the game because of fights involving spectators inside and outside of the stadium. Buchtel was ahead 20-0 and was declared the winner of the game .
When asked why the game was called off, Akron Public Schools Coordinator of Athletics Tom McKinnon said Friday night, "For the safety and security of everybody in the facility, it was deemed the best solution at this time was to call the game."
"There was a fight in the stands and then it just continued outside of the stadium," McKinnon said. "No players or coaches were involved."
