Adams century put Hants in One-Day Cup knockouts

A superb all-round performance from captain Georgia Adams was the foundation of the win that secured Hampshire a place in the knockout stages of the One-Day Cup.

Adams took 2-26 with the ball as Durham were restricted to 200-9 before she hit an unbeaten 106 to lead her side home by nine wickets with more 12 overs to spare at Chester-le-Street.

The result sees Hampshire join The Blaze in qualifying but the third and final spot remains tight.

Warwickshire jumped into third thanks to cruising to a seven-wicket triumph over bottom side Essex at Edgbaston. That put them one point clear of Somerset, who came through a remarkable five-run win over Yorkshire at Headingley.

Meanwhile defending champions Lancashire continued their late push with a fourth straight win as they overcame Surrey by 10 runs on the DLS method at Farington.

Last year's runners-up Hampshire had seen their progress to a guaranteed top-three finish held up by losing to Lancashire, but they were back on form against Durham .

The hosts opted to bat, but Adams and fellow spinner Amanda-Jane Wellington took a combined 5-56 from 20 overs to restrict them.

Durham were 129-8 and then 158-9 before an unbroken last-wicket stand of 42 in four overs between young Australian Eleanor Larosa, who finished on 51 off 36 balls and Katie Levick (12) pushed the total to 200-9.

But Adams made short work of the chase, putting on 86 with fellow opener Ella McCaughan (31) and then 115 with Abi Norgrove, who was 59 not out.

The captain finished on 106 off as many balls as the five points were collected with 12.3 overs in hand.

Warwickshire took full advantage of playing struggling Essex with a maximum point triumph.

The visitors batted first and were salvaged by a 75-run sixth-wicket partnership from 115-5 between Liberty Heap, who top scored with 52 and Sophia Smale, 42.

But 4-42 from Phoebe Brett and 3-26 from another spinner in Hannah Baker saw Essex eventually all out for 202 in the 45th over.

In reply, the Bears fell to 86-3, but captain Katie George and Abi Freeborn came together to take hold of the game.

They put on 122 at more than a run-a-ball with Freeborn on 64 and George, who ended the game with a six, on 72 as victory was wrapped up with 81 balls to spare with the Warwickshire skipper delivering a fourth half-century of the competition to go with one century.

Victory from jaws of defeat for Somerset

Somerset began the day in third and slumped to 21-5 after Yorkshire asked them to bat with Hannah Rainey and Jess Woolston ripping through the order.

Jess Hazell battled to 33, and others chipped in as they eventually scrambled their way to 130 before being bowled out in the 39th over.

Yorkshire quickly slipped to 22-3 but 29 from Erin Thomas and then Ami Campbell with 35 looked to have got them over the line at 121-5 and with only 10 needed to win.

But Campbell was run out, sparking an incredible collapse of five wickets for four runs with four wickets falling on 121 before Rainey was bowled by Chloe Skelton, who took 4-28, to cap the incredible turnaround.

After losing seven of their opening nine games, Lancashire are gathering some late momentum to remain in the hunt.

Tilly Kesteven hit a career-best 85, batting at number three, to anchor her side's total of 234-9 off their 50 overs as they played their first competitive match at the club's new second home at Farington.

Surrey were going well at 85-2 but lost two wickets for two runs including Phoebe Franklin for 43 to tilt things back in the Red Rose's favour.

However, with rain threatening, the match was decided in what turned out to be the final over.

The fall of wicketkeeper Jemina Spence, lbw to Fi Morris for 41, put the DLS score back in Lancashire's favour and one ball later, the umpires took the players off for rain with them not to return.
