Oliver Bearman's reported salary demand has slowed down the F1 renewal talks between his management, Ferrari and Haas.
After the departure of Esteban Ocon , Haas confirmed Ferrari junior and F2 graduate Rafael Camara as his replacement for the 2027 F1 season. Interestingly, they did not confirm Bearman as his teammate, even though it is certain it will be him.
Even at the F1 US GP, Bearman left it to his management and Ferrari to decide. "I think on our side as well, if I'm not mistaken, we're very sure that we want to continue working together, and the only sticking points are kind of out of my hands, more contractual points," said Bearman to the media.
"I want to get a lot from them, but no, it's out of my hands, I am leaving it to my management and, of course, Ferrari as well." Following the statement, a report from business F1 writer Marc Limacher has noted the sticking point.
Business Writer Points at Bearman's Deamnds
He has highlighted the salary demand of Bearman to be six million euros, which Haas doesn't wish to pay – which in turn has slowed down the renewal talks. The Brit, who will be the senior pro in F1 2027, insists he is committed to the American team.
The length of the deal is not in his hands, but the desire is naturally to fight for podiums and wins. He hopes he can do it with Haas, but if he cannot, he is not shy about targeting the Top 4 teams. As he is a Ferrari F1 junior, it is a natural move.
However, Charles Leclerc has signed a long-term deal, and Lewis Hamilton is most likely to stay for the 2027 F1 season and possibly 2028 too. "I'm committed to Haas myself, and the length of the deal is not really my remit," said Bearman.
Bearman Feels Ready for Step Up But Committed to Haas
"I'm happy to be in F1, but of course, looking into the medium-to-long term, I also feel like I'm ready to fight for podiums and fight at the front. In terms of a midfield team, Haas is the team that I want to be with, and I see my future with.
"But at some point, as well, I feel like I've earned the opportunity to go out and look for a top four team. And of course, with my link with Ferrari, that would be my ultimate goal. But yeah, as I said, I'm not discussing the nitty-gritty. That's what my kind of short-term ambition is, and my medium-to-long-term is, of course, to be fighting for podiums.
"I hope that Haas can give me that opportunity, but yeah, let's see. Of course, Ferrari is involved. At the end, I am a junior driver of Ferrari, and that's ultimately the reason I'm here because of that. So, of course, they have a big say in what my future looks like," summed up Bearman, who knows that the 2027 F1 season will likely be a shootout.
With Camara joining Haas as a rookie, Ferrari will have a chance to directly compare the two F1 drivers in the same machinery, which will help them make the best decision. The shootout will most likely be for Hamilton's seat, and Bearman is aware.
