Deion Sanders weighs in on Jaguars’ usage of Travis Hunter

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars has been how two-way star Travis Hunter will be utilized. The Jaguars traded up to get him at No. 2 in the 2025 NFL Draft, but his promising rookie season came to a stop after he suffered a knee injury.

Hunter has seen limited snaps so far this season, which has led to some criticism. The latest example comes from Deion Sanders, who coached Hunter at both Jackson State and Colorado.

Through two games, Hunter has played 11 snaps on offense, according to PFF, with one reception, and 66 snaps on defense, as he shares playing time with Montaric Brown and Jarrian Jones . So far this season, his usage has been minimal, which Sanders questioned.

"I don't ask questions because I'm not there. I don't know what transpires. When we're not looking, I have no idea what's going on," he said on his CBS Colorado show, via Pro Football Talk . "I know who he was and who he is right now. I know what he's capable. I do know that."

Sanders previously criticized the Jaguars for not consulting with him on a strategy for how to get the most out of Hunter, though he said he has remained in touch with the Heisman Trophy winner.

It is yet to be seen if Hunter will see more playing time against the New England Patriots, but one suggested reason for his slow start is to ensure he remains healthy as he rebounds from last season's injury. According to an anonymous source , who spoke with The Athletic, this has been Jacksonville's plan all along, as he has played a total of just nine games in his entire NFL career, and the Jaguars hope to see him grow on both sides of the ball to have a long and productive career.

"He's been doing well," a second source told The Athletic's Jonathan Jones . "Obviously, still working back from not playing football for a long time. (I) think he's going to only keep getting better."
