Raiders HC reveals Brock Bowers practice update with Week 2 hope
The Raiders' star tight end isn't ready just yet, but there's some hope.
The Las Vegas Raiders played Week 1 without Brock Bowers and wound up beating the Miami Dolphins without him. It was a convincing win, and looking ahead to Week 2, the Raiders are hoping Bowers comes back.
But before his return, Bowers will need to suit up in practice, get some reps, and prove he's healthy enough to play in the upcoming Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers .
According to Sam Warren of The Athletic , Klint Kubiak told reporters that Bowers will not practice on Wednesday, but that there is hope he'll practice ahead of Week 2, potentially indicating a return this week is on the table.
Raiders get Brock Bowers update amid injury issue
"Klint Kubiak said Brock Bowers and Darien Porter won't practice today," Warren reports. "Hopes they will practice this week."
Bowers missed Week 1 against the Dolphins due to a knee issue, and his Week 2 status is still up in the air. This update brings both some good and some bad news.
On one hand, Bowers isn't practicing on Wednesday, which is a little bit concerning, though veterans typically get Wednesday off even if they're fully expected to play that week.
But seeing Bowers not out there is still a little worrisome. Then the further report that the Raiders are hoping that Bowers will practice before Week 2 is a good sign.
While he might not actually suit up in Week 2 for the Raiders, the fact that he seemingly has a realistic chance of practicing leading up to the second week of the season is a good sign for his status going forward.
Michael Mayer took the starting tight-end reps in Bowers' absence, and while he might have that same starting role in Week 2, Bowers at least is closing in on a return based on this report.
His practice reports later this week will tell whether he's set to play in Week 2, or maybe even in Week 3. For now, it's some good news, as the hope from the Raiders is a sign of things going in the right direction.
