Tallon Griekspoor predicts how many Grand Slams Alexander Zverev could win after making scathing comments about him

Tallon Griekspoor has not held back when discussing Alexander Zverev's US Open victory.

Zverev beat Ben Shelton in the US Open final to win his second Grand Slam title after also lifting the Roland Garros title earlier this year.

Despite winning two Grand Slam titles this year, Zverev faced only one top 10 player , Shelton , in either tournament.

Partly as a result of this, Zverev's US Open victory has split opinion , and fellow ATP player Tallon Griekspoor has certainly not held back in what he thinks about it.

Griekspoor, who beat Zverev at the Canadian Open , has not won a single Grand Slam match this entire year.

As the Dutchman prepares to represent his country in the Davis Cup , he had some strong words to say about the goings-on at the US Open this year ahead of his nation's tie against Colombia.

As reported by Ubitennis, Griekspoor gave his thoughts on the men's US Open final, in which he claimed Zverev 'wasn't exceptional'.

"I expected it against Shelton," Griekspoor said about Zverev's win. "The precedents were obviously already clearly in favour of Zverev. I found the match rather mediocre . Shelton played very inconsistently and gave away two or three free points per game. You see what a first Slam final can do to a player."

Griekspoor added, "Zverev wasn't exceptional , but he served really well. The second set tie-break was crucial."

One of the other big talking points surrounding Zverev was his ball bouncing before serving , something that prompted some of his opponents to complain.

Griekspoor was also not a fan of this, but he suggested that he has never particularly enjoyed watching Zverev.

"There were other sports going on, and I simply have a hard time watching Zverev," Griekspoor responded when asked if he watched Zverev.

"Especially in this tournament, where he bounced the ball 400 times before every serve. It was really extreme, but it obviously helped him. Maybe I should do the same."

Griekspoor was simply not done there, as he continued his strong remarks about Zverev and the US Open.

This included claiming that Carlos Alcaraz should have beaten Shelton in the quarter-finals, but Griekspoor believes the Spaniard was satisfied with how his first tournament in nearly five months went after returning from a wrist injury.

"Alcaraz should have beaten him in the quarter-finals, but he played a nightmare tiebreak in the fifth set," claimed Griekspoor.

"Then Alcaraz walked off the court smiling. I felt like that showed what his expectations were. He hadn't come into the tournament in top form. I think he and his team were already satisfied with that."

Zverev has won more Grand Slam titles than any other ATP player this year, and there is now discussion over whether he will be able to compete with both Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner next year when they are both fit.

The German is also in a good position to overtake Sinner as the world number one, but Griekspoor is very clear on whether he thinks this will happen. However, Griekspoor does believe that if openings in Grand Slam draws happen again, Zverev could win more major titles in the future.

"Absolutely not," responded Griekspoor. "There's not a hair on my head that thinks so. I hope they [Sinner and Alcaraz] both return to great levels very soon.

"But if those two were to fail during a tournament, Zverev is always the one who is ready. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he ended his career with four or five Slams."
