Nuggets news: Aaron Gordon shouts out potential Denver X-factor

The Denver Nuggets made a solid move to strengthen the roster around Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon when they brought Cam Whitmore into the fold . Whitmore's roster situation changed through several trades and transactions before he ultimately agreed to a two-way contract with Denver.

Now, Whitmore is already turning heads at training camp. During the Nuggets' first day of training camp, Gordon gave Whitmore a notable shoutout .

"Big Cam. Cam's a very good player. He's big, strong, he's talented, and he's going to be a good addition. I hope that he sticks," Gordon said.

Whitmore's NBA journey began with the Houston Rockets , who selected him with the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. During his rookie season in Houston, Whitmore averaged 12.3 points while playing just 18.7 minutes per game.

After spending his first two seasons with the Rockets, Whitmore joined the Washington Wizards . The 22-year-old averaged 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes over 21 regular-season appearances for Washington last season.

Unfortunately, Whitmore's time on the court was restricted after he was diagnosed with right shoulder deep vein thrombosis . The injury limited his ability to maintain a consistent presence during the season.

However, now the early signs surrounding Whitmore have been encouraging at Denver's training camp. If Denver can get Whitmore fully healthy and comfortable within its system, he could give the Nuggets a major punch off the bench in the upcoming season, first on his current two-way contract and potentially a standard NBA deal before the playoffs roll around if everything goes as planned.
