Oklahoma football may have surprised many people this week , upsetting Texas 27-24. While many people may have doubted that they would win coming into the game, head coach Brent Venables knew it was their destiny to walk away with the victory.
"Made the plays when we needed to make them, wasn't always pretty… went according to script," Venables said via Evan Kamikow of News9.
It was a slow first half for Oklahoma, but it was the second half where things started to work in their favor. They outscored Texas 20-7 in the second half, and John Mateer felt like he was a part of the longest fourth quarter of his life .

"Some people could say it and make it true. And there's real power in that. And I knew, I think that was the longest fourth quarter I've ever been a part of. It was awesome. I'll never forget it. But I knew 19seconds left. Like this was the time, and because we have him, I knew it was going to happen," Mateer said after the game.
Mateer didn't have the best game, but he did just enough to help Oklahoma get the win in the end. This is definitely a game they can build on as the season continues, and the hope is that they can start games faster than they did.
As for Texas, they did the complete opposite, starting the game fast but not being able to get anything going in the second half. With the loss, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them drop in the top 25 AP polls.
