NFL roster cuts: Arizona Cardinals reportedly cut CB Sean Murphy-Bunting

The Arizona Cardinals have many cuts to make before 3 p.m. Arizona time. One reported cut is a surprise.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports , the Cardinals are cutting veteran cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting.

The move is surprising because has $1.75 million of his scheduled $2.39 million guaranteed. He has 65 career starts and can play both inside and outside. He worked as the Cardinals' starting nickel corner all offseason while Garrett Williams has recovered from a torn Achilles.

This move suggests that the Cardinals are confident that Williams will be able to play in Week 1, and perhaps they will keep Kalen King, who had been working as the No. 2 nickelback all offseason.

Because Murphy-Bunting is a vested veteran, he will not have to go through waivers. He might be a practice squad candidate as a result, and he will still get his guaranteed salary.

Murphy-Bunting was entering his third season with the Cardinals after signing a three-year contract in free agency. Last season, he did not play, suffering a knee injury in the offseason.

The Cardinals will announce their cuts after making the necessary moves to get to 53 players on the roster by 3 p.m. Arizona time.
