Eugene-Springfield area high school football updates and Oregon scores

Oregon high school football is in full swing, and this week's schedule in the Eugene-Springfield area includes a matchup of familiar rivals as Churchill hosts Thurston on Sept. 17 in the Midwestern League opener for both teams.

Churchill (0-2) defeated Thurston (1-1) in last year's 5A state quarterfinals. This year, Churchill has losses at Canby (49-22) and at home against Liberty (15-12). Thurston, ranked eighth in this week's 5A coaches poll, opened its season with a 20-17 win at Sheldon and a 31-8 home loss to No. 3 West Albany.
