‘When you go from coaching to television’ – Todd Monken fires shots at Mike Tomlin after his comments about Browns

Mike Tomlin's time as a football analyst is already grabbing a lot of attention, with Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken the latest to fire shots at the former Pittsburgh Steelers HC.

During the Browns' opening game loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars , Tomlin was part of the broadcast team, and as the show progressed, his views were asked on the performance.

The legendary HC resorted to a line his former player used, which perfectly summed up the evening for the Browns.

"In the words of my friend JuJu Smith-Schuster , the Browns is the Browns," said Tomlin.

Smith-Schuster made these comments before the Browns vs Steelers game during the 2021 playoffs.

The Steelers ended up losing the game, but Tomlin got a chance to use the statement his former player made five years ago.

However, this was not taken well by Coach Monken.

The biggest question during the press conference was Deshaun Watson 's status for the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .

He confirmed the veteran would start, and then it shifted to the comments made by Tomlin.

"Well, again, everybody's afforded their opinions. That's what you do when you go from coaching to television," Monken said.

"We have to own that. We have to own that. We didn't play very well. I don't see it that way, Browns being Browns. I don't see it that way. Every week is different, every team is different.

"We just didn't play well. That's one week. That's not Browns being Browns, that's Browns being poorly on one week."

While coach Monken came to the rescue of his organization and players, he is up against a major challenge to prove things wrong.

If the Browns secure a win, it would surprise quite a lot of people, as they are up against the Buccaneers and Baker Mayfield .

Having started the season with a loss, Mayfield will be looking to have a dominant finish when he takes on a team that was home for him when he started his NFL career.
