Four-star DME Academy basketball guard cuts recruiting list to 8 teams

Chance Berry's announcement arrived with a fancy graphic and a two-word caption.

Last month, the Toronto, Canada, native enrolled at DME Academy in Daytona Beach.

And it's going to change again in a matter of months, with the high school senior signing to play basketball at a power-conference university. Berry, a four-star prospect who ESPN ranks as the 50th-best player in the Class of 2027 and the sixth-best in Florida, drew one step closer to that achievement on Sept. 2.

She unveiled her top eight college choices in a social media post. The list included Arizona, Arizona State, North Carolina State, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas Tech, West Virginia and UCF.

Previously, the 5-foot-11 combo guard starred for Royal Crown Academy School in Toronto. She's resided among the top names in her recruiting class for multiple years.

In 2023 and 2024, Berry suited up for Team Canada in the FIBA U16 Americas Championship and the FIBA U17 World Cup, averaging six points per game in the latter.

In 2025, she started every contest for the All Knighters in the Overtime Select league. Her club won the title.

Berry is not a complete stranger to this state, either. Last November, she led Royal Crown to an 81-67 victory over Orlando's Academy of Central Florida in Daytona Beach. Her final stat line: 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Soon, she'll make her college decision. The early signing period opens on Nov. 11.

But before then, she'll check out Daytona a little longer.
