MANHATTAN, Kan. — Former Kansas State head basketball coach Jerome Tang has reached a settlement with the university following his firing earlier this year .
According to reports, the school will pay Tang $12 million between now and the end of 2027. He was owed $18.7 million.
Tang was fired back in February after he called out his team, saying they didn't deserve to wear the K-State jersey, and removed the names from the backs of players' jerseys.
K-State Athletic Director said he was fired with cause and released the following statement:
This was a decision that was made in the best interest of our university and men's basketball program. Recent public comments and conduct, in addition to the program's overall direction, have not aligned with K-State's standards for supporting student-athletes and representing the university. We wish Coach Tang and his family all the best moving forward.
Tang's lawyer, Tom Mars, then sent a warning to Taylor and K-State School President Richard Linton after his firing.
"If K-State's President and AD really think the school was embarrassed by recent events, that's nothing compared to the embarrassment that both of them are about to experience," Mars said back in February.
Tang spent four seasons at K-State, going 71-57 and reaching the Elite Eight in his first season with the program, and winning over the fanbase with his energetic personality. He then signed a seven-year contract extension in 2023.
K-State failed to reach the tournament over the next three seasons, as the relationship between Tang and the school soured.
Tang is now an associate head coach for the second time at Baylor University.
