Champaign Central wins flag football Big 12 title

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) - Champaign Central girls' flag football clinched its first ever conference title on Wednesday.

The Maroons clinched the Big 12 crown, and improved to 9-1 overall, with a 51-6 victory against Normal West on Wednesday.

Central's lone loss of the season came on Tuesday against Normal U-High.

Central made a massive leap and dominated an expanded Big 12 field after finishing 7-5 in the program's first season in 2025.

The Maroons have now clinched the No. 1 seed in the Peoria-Richwoods regional. Central will open postseason play on Monday, Oct. 5 in the regional semifinals, against the winner of Mahomet-Seymour and Urbana.

Central is planning to play one final regular season game against Normal Community, but it will not count towards conference standings, nor impact playoff seeding.
