Lakers predicted to sign $15M former first-rounder to revive career, learn from Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a lot of offseason moves this summer as they hope to make some major playoff runs in the near future. It is time for Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves to lead the way for the organization.

The Lakers will bring in an almost entirely new look, which is fine. However, some believe that their team is still incomplete.

"I think there's plenty of time here before they have to make a decision. They do, I believe, still want to make some type of trade upgrade at the wing/forward spot after missing out on Jonathan Kuminga . I do think the Lakers are incomplete right now moving forward," Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer said.

LA has some room to make moves, but the problem is that they have been unsuccessful in moving guys off the roster. A roster move they could look to make is signing former first-round pick Cam Whitmore to a deal.

"Whitmore is far from a polished product and doesn't have the tools to shine defensively, at least not yet, but for someone who still has two-way eligibility, perhaps a team like L.A. could consider giving Whitmore a chance," Heavy.com's Adel Ahmad wrote.

Whitmore was traded in August to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Peyton Watson deal. However, he was quickly waived by Cleveland.

"They get Cam Whitmore as part of the trade. They are going to waive and stretch Whitmore over three years. It's basically a $1.8 million cap hold that will then give them the flexibility to go out and sign James Harden to a new deal," ESPN's Bobby Marks said.

Whitmore is a wonderful scorer, and a team can never have too many of those. It is his defense that lacks productivity, but that is nothing a good coaching staff can't fix.

Whitmore was on his $15 million rookie deal before being waived. Whitmore would do a great job learning from Doncic and how he goes about his business. Doncic has also gotten better on the defensive side of the ball over the last year, so Whitmore can pick his brain on multiple things.
