Mika Baur absent from Germany squad to face Netherlands as reason explained

Celtic supporters will have to wait a little longer to see Mika Baur potentially make his senior Germany debut.

The Hoops midfielder earned a surprise first call-up to the national team last week, little more than a month after completing his move to Parkhead.

However, Baur will not be involved when Germany face the Netherlands on Thursday night, with his absence not down to injury or a change of plans from Jurgen Klopp.

Germany have instead named two separate groups for their four internationals across September and October.

The DFB confirmed that the first group will take on the Netherlands on September 24 before facing Greece three days later.

Baur has been selected for the second group and is due to link up with Germany ahead of their clash with Serbia in Munich on October 1, followed by another meeting with Greece in Thessaloniki on October 4.

It means the 21-year-old remains in contention to earn his first senior cap during the international break, despite being absent from the squad facing the Netherlands.

Baur's inclusion attracted plenty of attention last week, particularly after Klopp spoke positively about the midfielder and his summer switch to Celtic.
