Rams news: Myles Garrett sums up Sean McVay's leadership before LA debut

Los Angeles Rams star pass rusher Myles Garrett offered a concise assessment of Sean McVay 's leadership before making his highly anticipated debut with the franchise. Garrett, whom the Rams acquired from the Cleveland Browns this offseason, has spent more than three months around McVay and the organization as Los Angeles prepares for its season opener against the San Francisco 49ers in Australia.

Garrett's endorsement is especially significant after the Rams made him the centerpiece of their win-now defensive additions. L.A. sent Jared Verse and three draft picks to the Browns to acquire the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

The Rams posted a clip on X, formerly Twitter, of Garrett sharing what has stood out about McVay's leadership since joining the organization.

Garrett will make his Rams debut against the 49ers after knee swelling limited him for much of training camp and the preseason. McVay confirmed Tuesday that Garrett will be ready for Week 1.

The 30-year-old arrives in Los Angeles after producing a historic final season with the Browns. Garrett recorded an NFL-record 23 sacks in 2025 and claimed his second Defensive Player of the Year award.

The Rams paid a significant price to add him. Cleveland received Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round selection in the blockbuster trade.

The superstar pass rusher has maintained championship aspirations since arriving in Los Angeles. He reiterated Tuesday that winning a Super Bowl and another Defensive Player of the Year award remain his primary goals while expressing confidence in the Rams' defensive front.

That group will open the season without Aaron Donald , as McVay confirmed the veteran defensive tackle will not travel to Australia. Garrett, however, is set to make his Los Angeles debut as the Rams begin their season against San Francisco .
