Roundup of Monroe County Region sports for Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026

ERIE – New Boston Huron and St. Mary Catholic Central took home the girls trophies.

Huron was the Division 1 champion and SMCC wore the Division 2 crown at the 44th annual Frank Connolly Cross Country Relays on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Huron finished well ahead of the rest of the field in Division 1 with 21 points. Dearborn Divine Child was second with 38 and Airport third with 48.

"We didn't expect it," Huron coach Cassandra Roupe said of title. "We have a nice squad and they have been training hard."

All three Huron teams finished in the top 13.

Zoey Cheney and Grace Pacheco were third and Isa Vargo and Kayla Christesen fifth. Lauren Macon and Alexis White claimed 13th place.

Airport was led by Maddie Agocs and Ellen Baker in fourth place and Abbey Ward and Kendal Kleman in 12th.

SMCC finished with 64 points with Ella Hendrick-Juleigh Husby, Makayla Markgraff-Genevieve Sottile and Lizzie Wright-Kylie Dubke going 11-25-28.

Whiteford placed second led by a ninth-place finish by Breslin Wing-Braelynn Chiotti.

Jefferson's duo of Randee Mulherin and Claire Miller captured sixth place.

Other Monroe County Region duos in the top 25 were: Zoey Smalling-Josephine Mehki of Monroe, 15th; Addy Ringbloom-Lydia Richards of Dundee, 17th; Madison Lancaster-Haley Lancaster of Milan, 19th; Sierra DeBarr-Moly Fojtik of Whiteford, 21st; Harper Winkelman-Gemma Burr of Monroe, 23rd, and Remy Steves-Harper Childress of the Monroe Milers, 24th.

Dearborn Divine Child was the Division 1 boys champion and Blissfield captured the Division 2 trophy.

Phineas Totten and Christian Craanen of SMCC produced a second-place finish and Tanner Kuhn and Cameron Crane of New Boston Huron were third.

Also making the top 25 were Victor LeBrun-Jacob Goachee of Monroe, 5; Cole Butler-Gavin Rohr of Monroe, 6; Gabe Busen-Mason Tulik of Jefferson, 8; Porter Ravary-Caleb Healey of Erie Mason, 9; Brennan Chiotti-Grant Rasor of Whiteord, 10; Weston Albright-David Mills of Mason, 11; Hayden Bovair-Hunter Rodak of Airport, 12; Carter Lee-Jonah Busen of Jefferson, 14; Garrett Patrick-Brenton Musallam, 17; Mason Martin-Cameron Garcia of Milan, 20; Colton Childress-Miciah Ivey of the Monroe Milers, 21 and Ty Davis-Rowen Bailiff of Monroe, 22.

OTTAWA LAKE – Macy Ovall rang up 22 kills and Addy Hill 33 assists to lead Whiteford past Summerfield 25-17, 25-7, 25-23 on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Avery Welch added 25 digs for the 8-2-1 Bobcats.

Summerfield's Bridget Salenbien recorded 7 kills and 9 digs and Hailey Hunter added 8 digs.

PONTIAC – Kennadi Goulet rang up 28 kills while hitting .322 in the Motor City Power Series to lead Bedford past Rochester Adams 25-21, 21-25. 25-21 and Walled Lake Northern 25-12, 25-19.

Blair Russow (26 digs), Olivia Eby (37), and Anna Gray (11 kills, 4 blocks) were other leaders for the 6-4 Mules.

DUNDEE – Mckenzie Heath registered 8 kills and 2 blocks and Lacey Evans played well on defense, but Dundee fell 25-10, 25-23, 25-15 to Clinton on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

NEW BOSTON – Marton Krajcz found the back of the net twice and goalkeeper Todd Elliott notched his fifth shutout as New Boston Huron blanked Belleville 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Gonzalo Aragon netted the other goal and Maverik Bazzy and Hunter Campbell were credited with assists as Huron stretched its winning streak to five games.

MONROE – Ava Dowen (200, 500 freestyle), Sophia Smith (50, 100 freestyle) and Karis Beaton (individual medley, backstroke) were all double winners as Monroe moved to 5-0 with a 143-29 triumph over Ypsilanti.

Emma Boyd, Blayne Lynch, Morgan Kleinow, Sophia Mason and Madison Mahoney also swam well.

MONROE – Nick Phillips topped Marc Villemure in the finals to win the championship flight of the Green Meadows Golf Club tournament.

Megan Yinger took the women's championship by beating Jimilynn Durocher in the finals.

Other winners were Garrett Diesing (A), John Bulger (B) and Marv Hicks (Senior) with Keith Fisher, Bob Schuster and Bob Dushane taking second.

DUNDEE – Austin Straub of Milan shot his first hole-in-one on Friday, Sept. 8 at Dundee Golf Course.
