Missouri State football honors Springfield with helmet flag decal

Missouri State donned a new helmet decal during its Week 1 game against No. 8 Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 5.

On the front of the helmet, the City of Springfield flag is represented. The blue and white flag contrasted well with the Bears' white and Maroon helmet. The city's flag was adopted in 2022, after the Springfield Identity Project created it nearly a decade ago.

The team put the flag on the helmet as a sense of pride for the university's hometown, head coach Casey Woods said following the game to the Missouri State Radio Network.

"We put that Springfield flag on our helmet so Springfield understands how invested we are in them," Woods said. "We need their investment in us."

Missouri State hosts Lindenwood for its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 12. Woods has a goal of setting the attendance record against Lindenwood, an in-state opponent.

The record was set in 2014 against North Dakota. There were 18,386 fans in attendance for the game.
