Conor Benn opens up on “What’s Next” after crushing Ryan Garcia WBC welterweight title defeat in Las Vegas

Conor Benn is facing an uncertain future after suffering a damaging stoppage defeat against Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas. The British boxer was stopped in the second round at the T-Mobile Arena while chasing the WBC welterweight title and another major step in his career.The loss was a major setback for Benn, who had hoped to follow in the footsteps of his father, former world champion Nigel Benn. However, the 29-year-old has now made it clear that boxing is not his immediate priority. If you’d asked the 19-year-old version of me whether I thought I’d be standing here 10 years later, having lived through everything I have, I’d have told you that you were crazy.”He continued, “I train hard. I sacrifice. I’ve given this game 110 per cent every time I’ve stepped through those ropes, I’ve wanted to give people unforgettable nights and entertain. That’s what this has always been about for me. People spend their hard-earned money to come and watch guys like us fight. I’ve never taken that for granted.”Benn is expected to take some time away from the sport. His immediate focus appears to be recovering from the defeat and spending more time with his children.He added, “Giving everything comes at a cost. And the people who have paid that cost more than anyone are my family and my kids. They’ve sacrificed time with their dad so I could chase this dream. They’ve had to share me with this sport their entire lives. So when people ask me what’s next for Conor Benn, right now the answer is simple. Time with my kids.”He also thanked his supporters who travelled to Las Vegas and stayed awake to watch the fight.Despite the defeat, Benn is still only 29 and has plenty of time to rebuild his career. The Garcia fight was his first bout at welterweight in more than four years. He had previously competed twice against Chris Eubank Jr at middleweight.The return to 147 pounds was therefore a significant challenge for Benn. His next move could involve returning to a higher weight class rather than attempting another difficult welterweight run.A move to middleweight could provide him with fresh opportunities. Benn could potentially target established fighters at 160 pounds if he is able to work his way back into title contention.Another option could be a third fight with Eubank Jr. The pair are currently level at 1-1 after their two previous encounters. A trilogy at 168 pounds could also remove some of the pressure associated with making middleweight.For now, however, Benn appears ready to step away from boxing for some time.
