Hurts will miss the season after doctors diagnosed deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli

The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, 28, visited the team's practice facility on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with some of his teammates seeing him for the first time since he was shut down for the season after being diagnosed with blood clots , ESPN reported.

Hurts joined team meetings but did not address the club, according to the report, which described the quarterback's presence Wednesday as a "morale boost.

It's been a challenging season for Philadelphia, with the Birds entering Week 9 at 2-6.

Hurts was first diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in London last month, when he played in the team's 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 11. Days later, on Oct. 17, he was moved to injured reserve. The quarterback was officially shut down for the season on Oct. 19, when it was revealed that multiple blood clots had been found in his lungs.

Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, shared that the quarterback was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli, when a blood clot travels to the lung from another part of the body, per the Cleveland Clinic .

"After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli," she wrote in a statement. "He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations."

Lynn added that Hurts will begin taking a blood thinner and "he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football."

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said on Wednesday that he's been in "constant communication" with Hurts.

"I've talked to him and am in constant communication with him and know he's resting and recovering," said Sirianni, who did not provide a direct answer when asked if Hurts visited the team facility. "I miss him like crazy. But nothing new on that front. I know he's resting and recovering, and we're all still praying for him and hoping for a speedy recovery."

Sirianni, 45, previously defended the team's handling of the serious health issue, including the decision to let him travel overseas.

"The health of our players is always at the forefront of our minds, and we leave that up to the medical experts, but we always, always care deeply about our players," Sirianni said. "When you are completely focused on togetherness and connection, you're always thinking about the well-being of your guys, and that's where we were in that situation."

The Eagles host the New York Giants on Sunday, Nov. 8.
