Why Ben Johnson was a little disappointed with Chicago Bears’ 59-37 Week 1 win

Ben Johnson spoke about the Chicago Bears ' dominant 59-37 win against the Carolina Panthers , and why he didn't feel thrilled with the result.

The Bears looked incredible against the Panthers, with Caleb Williams in particular delivering a sensational performance.

But Ben Johnson couldn't help but feel that the Bears left something on the table in the win, even if it was just by a very small margin.

Ben Johnson wanted Chicago Bears to score 60+ points against Carolina Panthers

When speaking with Jeff Joniak of ESPN Chicago radio, Ben Johnson had a very simple response when the veteran broadcaster admitted he was hoping the Chicago Bears would score 60+ points.

Johnson admitted that he also wanted the Bears to cross the 60-point mark during the game, but they missed it by just one point.

Jeff Joniak: "At that point I was hoping for 60! I was thinking of a two-point try at some point."

Ben Johnson: "I don't think you were the only one (hoping for 60 points)…"

Even with the Bears failing to score 60+ points against the Panthers, there is no denying just how well they played in Week 1.

It was a statement performance from the team, who were eager to prove that their performances last season were no fluke.

Williams had a stellar night, throwing for 269 yards with two touchdowns across 29 attempted passes, while carrying for two more touchdowns with 65 rushing yards.

Many have predicted that Williams will be an MVP contender, and his first performance did little to dissuade this notion.

If there was any criticism to be had, it could be for the Bears' defense for letting the Panthers score 37 points against them.

The Panthers are far from the most potent offensive team in the NFL, so letting them score as frequently as the Bears did isn't exactly a good look.

Hopefully, as the season goes on, Johnson and the coaching staff can ensure that the defensive unit improves.
