South Africa star Marco Jansen produced a moment of magic against Australia that's probably going to be replayed for a while. It was a one-handed diving catch during the opening ODI at Kingsmead, Durban, that should rank among the finest seen in international cricket this year, across any format.

The catch came at a point when Australia, batting second, still had hopes of chasing the total down. On the second ball of the 37th over, Gerald Coetzee dug one in short, and Matt Renshaw, the left-handed Aussie batter, went for the pull shot.

What followed was pure theatre as Jansen sprinted in from square leg, threw himself full length, and somehow clung on with his right hand outstretched, the ball wedging between his thumb and index finger before it could touch the turf. Renshaw departed for 44 off 49 balls, having struck six boundaries, with Coetzee finishing with figures of 1 for 39 in 7.2 overs.

Renshaw's wicket turned out to be the crucial moment of the innings. He'd been the one recognised batter still standing, and with him gone, Australia's chase unravelled fairly quickly. At the time, the tourists were 215 for seven, needing 83 more off 82 balls.

It was a target that had looked within reach, especially with Renshaw at the crease. But suddenly it all unravelled for the Baggy Greens after Renshaw's departure.

Corbin Bosch mopped up two wickets late on, and fittingly, it was Keshav Maharaj who wrapped things up, getting Adam Zampa to slog-sweep straight to Ryan Rickelton behind the stumps, who ended the day with three catches to his name.

South Africa had earlier posted 297 for eight in their 50 overs, and Australia, in reply, could only muster 230 all out, handing the hosts a comfortable 67-run win.

Jansen's day didn't stop at that one catch, either, as he backed it up with 75 off 59 with the bat and picked up a wicket too, capping off an all-round performance in a match that'll be remembered chiefly for those few seconds of brilliance on the green.
