The No. 1-ranked team in Minnesota suffered an upset loss on Friday night.

The Moorhead Spuds put together one of the best offensive regular seasons in the history of Minnesota high school football, but their postseason run came to an end with a second-round upset loss, 19-14 to Prior Lake on Friday night at home.

The Spuds were widely viewed as the No. 1 high school football team in the state of Minnesota, but the Lakers handed them a 19-14 loss on their home field to end their season.

Gophers commit QB Jett Feeney was off his game. He finished 11 of 24 for just 128 yards and one touchdown. He had nine carries for 88 yards and one touchdown on the ground, but Prior Lake's defense limited him to his worst game of the season. He also threw his first two interceptions of the entire season.

Fellow Gophers commit wide receiver David Mack was injured in Moorhead's first-round win over Coon Rapids, and the Spuds' offense clearly missed him. Cornerback/wide receiver Zak Walker stepped up in his absence with five catches for 57 yards. Running back Taye Reich, who's also committed to the Gophers, finished with 13 carries for 74 yards.

Feeney, Mack, Reich and Walker's high school careers are now over as key parts of one of the most successful senior classes in the history of Moorhead football. All four are committed to play football at the University of Minnesota, and their next step will be early national signing day in December.

Prior Lake was ready for the moment, and it will now face No. 2 seed Rosemount on Thursday night at Maple Grove in the quarterfinals, with a trip to U.S. Bank Stadium and the Class 6A semifinals on the line. That game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
