Just days before Eagles opener, Commanders part ways with former first-round pick

Washington Commanders have made a late change to their offensive line just days before their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles .

The team released former first-round pick and Pro Bowl offensive tackle D.J. Humphries on Friday, just two days before the Commanders face the Eagles.

ESPN's John Keim confirmed the move on X.

"Washington released (tackle) D.J. Humphries," ESPN's John Keim wrote on X.

The Commanders had signed Humphries to provide depth and starting experience on their offensive line. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the move on August 30.

Humphries joined Washington after previously earning Pro Bowl honours with the Arizona Cardinals in 2021.

The 6-foot-5, 302-pound offensive tackle tore his ACL while playing for the Cardinals in 2023. He then played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024 before spending the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Rams .

Humphries had 101 career starts, mostly with the Cardinals, before his release from Washington.

Humphries now finds himself without a spot on Washington's roster just two days before the team's season opener against Philadelphia.
