Clarke Schmidt to make another rehab appearance Saturday, could rejoin Yankees after

The Yankees could be getting a nice boost in their bullpen soon.

Clarke Schmidt will make one more rehab appearance this weekend, Aaron Boone said pregame Friday.

The team will wait and see how that outing goes, but if Schmidt is able to get through it okay, then the skipper said a return during the next road trip could be in play.

Schmidt has thrown 5.2 innings through four appearances to this point.

He's been slowly building himself up to rejoin the club in a relief role after missing 400-plus days following the second Tommy John surgery of his career.

The righty hasn't pitched in a big-league game since last July.

Schmidt could be a nice weapon for the Yanks when he does return, though, as he's pitched to a 3.18 ERA out of the bullpen in his career.

Ryan Weathers could be joining Schmidt in that bullpen down the stretch, as well.

The left-hander is said to be doing extremely well during his throwing progression, and Boone said that it's possible he'll be able to return during the final week of the season.

He could make his way back onto the mound as soon as next week.

Weathers has been sidelined for just about three weeks now due to a left forearm flexor strain.

While there was initially some concern watching him leave his start, the expectation has been that he'll be able to help the Yanks again down the stretch in some capacity.
