Joey Porter Jr. remains questionable for the Steelers' season opener against the Falcons. Here are the latest updates on his injury and contract situation.
Porter was listed as questionable on the Steelers ' final injury report ahead of Sunday's opener against the Falcons. He was limited in practice throughout the week while working his way back from a back injury that kept him on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list throughout training camp and the preseason.
According to Steelers Depot , Porter "tweaked his back during the team's mobility test" before the first training camp practice. He was activated from the PUP list during roster cutdowns and returned to practice Sept. 1.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Porter was still in the ramp-up stage, and the cornerback remained limited in Friday's practice.
Porter's contract situation also remains unresolved as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. The Steelers have made a formal offer, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo , but the two sides remain apart.
Porter said Friday he isn't optimistic about getting a deal done before Sunday's opener and pushed back on reports that he is seeking to become the NFL's highest-paid cornerback, calling those figures internet chatter.
The Steelers will shut down contract negotiations when the regular season begins, leaving a narrow window for the sides to reach an agreement.
