Broncos won Super Bowl the last time this happened after roster cuts
In 2015, the Broncos' roster was too deep for any rookie UDFAs to make the active roster. For the first time since then, no UDFAs made Denver's squad.
For just the second time in the last 23 years, the Denver Broncos did not have any undrafted free agents make their initial 53-man roster this summer.
Kolbe Katsis and four other UDFAs ended up on the practice squad. Taurean York remains a free agent .
The Broncos have a great history of finding undrafted gems , but the streak of UDFAs making the initial active roster ended last weekend. History suggests that might actually be a good sign.
The last time Denver did not have a rookie UDFA make the initial 53-man squad was 2015. That year, similar to this season, the Broncos had an extremely talented roster, and it was hard for any UDFAs to break into the active roster.
Denver went on to win the Super Bowl that season with the help of former undrafted players including cornerback Chris Harris (2011), running back C.J. Anderson (2013) and pass rusher Shaq Barrett (2014).
The list of notable past UDFAs on the Broncos' current roster includes slot cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian, starting defensive end Malcolm Roach, All-Pro special teamer Devon Key and pass rusher Dondrea Tillman. So while no members of the 2026 undrafted class made Denver's squad, the Broncos have plenty of past UDFAs contributing.
Denver's roster being too deep for undrafted rookies could be a good sign for the club's 2026 outlook, just like it was in 2015.
