Alejandro Tosti's caddie quits midway through first round in Asheville

Alejandro Tosti's caddie quit midway through Thursday's first round of the PGA Tour's Biltmore Championship in Asheville, North Carolina.

First reported by Golfweek , Cliff Ellis, who has looped for Tosti on and off in recent years, had enough, excusing himself from Tosti's bag during their ninth hole of the day.

Tosti, who was grouped with Luke Clanton and Spencer Oxendine, was even par at the time and went on to card a 1-over 72.

Reached by Golfweek via text, Tosti wrote, "He couldn't keep up with eight pars in a row," followed by several laughing emojis.

Tosti, the 30-year-old fiery Argentine, has a long history of squabbles with fellow competitors, staff and caddies, including Ellis. He was suspended from the Korn Ferry Tour in 2023 for conduct unbecoming a professional. Tosti has also been open about his mental struggles, telling Golfweek two years ago, "It's been the challenge for me my whole life, dealing with myself."

He tees off Friday at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove at 1:49 p.m. ET.
