Girls soccer: Lady Lions post EIAC win against Connersville

The matchup between Rushville and Connersville on the pitch could not be decided in regulation or the two overtime sessions. It took a penalty kick shootout for the Lady Lions to get the 4-2 victory.

Freshman Ava Peggs scored the only goal in regulation for the Lady Lions. The game was tied 1-1 after the 80 minute regulation time. The Lady Lions and Lady Spartans remained tied after two 7-minute overtimes.

In the shootout, Rushville keeper Kalaina Harper only allowed one goal of the five shots to be scored.

Rushville's Anna Beth Chastain, Izzy Simmermon and Annie Buzzard all found the back of the net for the Lady Lions to secure the conference win.

Rushville improves to 5-3 on the season.

The junior varsity Lady Lions also came home with a win 2-1. Keanna Bennett scored both goals for the Lady Lions. Natalie Dora had four saves during the 35-minute JV half.

Saturday, the Lady Lions traveled to Lawrenceburg to face a talented Lady Tigers team. Rushville keeper Kalaina Harper recorded 30 saves. Lawrenceburg posted the 6-0 win.

The Lady Pirates went on the road to Centerville to pick up another win on the season. The Lady Pirates scored three goals in the first half and backed that up with four goals in the second half en route to the 7-2 victory.

Greensburg's Kadence Rich scored four goals. Emma Kennelly found the net for a pair of goals. Kelsey Wentzel added one goal.

Maria Scholle dished out five assists in the game. Rachel Lipps and Alexis Weber both had one assist in the win.

Greensburg's offensive pressure resulted in 31 shots on goal: Scholle 10, Rich eight, Kennelly six, Wentzel three, Lipps two, Weber one and Mackenzie Schwering one.

Greensburg keeper Peyton Powers recorded eight saves. Hadley Meyer added two saves.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted EIAC foe Lawrenceburg on the grass field and split with the Lady Tigers. Batesville won the varsity contest 4-0. Lawrenceburg prevailed in the junior varsity match 3-0.

Four minutes into the varsity game, Batesville's Addie Reding received a pass from Elia Wade and then placed the ball past the keeper and into the corner of the goal.

Wade then got the team's second goal of the night, by running onto a through ball, cut in front of a defender and then placed the ball into the corner of the net. Before the end of the half, Reding scored her second goal of the night. Sydney Britton sent a pass to Reding, who headed the ball into space and then drilled in a shot from the 18-yard box.

Britton was able to score the only goal in the second half, by taking a deep shot from outside the corner of the 18-yard box.

Batesville's defense was stellar. The defensive line of Nora Wiedeman, Savannah Pohlman, Emma Cheeks, Cora Miller, Kenzi Lacey and Bailey Feldmann played a huge role in the shutout. Keeper Brynlie Oesterling recorded her fifth shutout of the season with 16 saves tonight.
