The Chicago Blackhawks released photos of star center Connor Bedard in his new captain's jersey ahead on Tuesday.

Bedard underwent left shoulder surgery last summer after suffering an injury during offseason training in Vancouver on July 2 . He missed his team's first six games, but Chicago announced its activation of Bedard from the injured non-roster list.

Per the Canadian Press , Bedard is expected to make his season debut on Tuesday evening at home versus the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The 21-year-old Bedard was one of the most lauded prospects in recent memory a few years ago before Chicago selected him with the first overall pick in the 2023 NHL draft. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year in 2023-24.

Over his first three seasons (219 games), Bedard has amassed 75 goals and 128 assists. He posted career-high marks in goals (30), assists (45) and points (75) last season.

Chicago has struggled mightily since the 2019-20 season, the last time the Blackhawks made the playoffs. They've finished last in the Central Division each of the last four seasons, although their point total has steadily risen from their 82- or 84-game low or 52 points in 2023-24. Chicago improved to 61 points in 2024-25 and 72 in 2025-26 thanks in part to Bedard's efforts.

This year has gotten off a rough start, especially without Bedard. Thankfully, he's back in the mix and now has the C on his jersey as Chicago looks to turn this season around in short order.
