Sean Payton says Davis Webb, Broncos will learn from Monday's game

"You learn from that," Broncos coach Sean Payton said after Davis Webb's play-calling debut. " "It's a quick turnaround."

After the Denver Broncos ' offense struggled in Week 1, many fans directed their ire at new offensive coordinator and play-caller Davis Webb , who made his regular-season debut in that role in a 31-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs .

The Broncos , however, have come to the defense of their young play-caller.

Denver quarterback Bo Nix said the offense let Webb down with a " pretty pitiful " performance. Nix argued that Webb had a good plan, but players failed to execute it.

Following the team's first practice of the week on Thursday, head coach Sean Payton said it was a poor performance across the board when asked about Webb.

"Listen, that game didn't go [well] for any of us as we would have hoped, right?" Payton said . "I said in the meeting this morning, there was dirt on a ton of people's hands, starting with me. So you learn from that. It's a quick turnaround."

After totaling just 176 net yards in their season opener, the Broncos' offense will attempt to bounce back against a Jacksonville Jaguars defense that allowed 272 net yards to the lowly Cleveland Browns in Week 1. If Denver's offense doesn't get back on track this week, Webb's status — at least among fans — will continue to be questioned.
