Liverpool are eyeing a move for someone even better than Ronald Araujo

The January transfer window is still a few months away yet but, Liverpool have already be scouring the transfer market for new players.

There are many areas among their ranks that could do with an upgrade or two but, with the club spending over £600 million over the last couple of years, there's probably not all that much left in the war chest.

Obviously, if they managed to move some more players on such as Jeremie Frimpong and Alexis Mac Allister, they'd have a bit more room to play with.

However, since that doesn't look all that likely, Andoni Iraola and Julian Ward must make sure that every deal they make is worthwhile for the Anfield outfit.

This has been Liverpool's mantra for some time now which is why it's hardly surprising to see the club looking at making a move for a different defender than Ronald Araujo .

The Frenchman was often spoken about alongside Francisco Conceicao with Juventus looking to make some money before the summer window slammed shut.

However, since a deal for neither of them came to fruition, Liverpool chose to sign Araujo instead.

And, even though they have a buy-option in their loan deal for the Uruguayan, it's unclear whether that'll be activated or not.

So, the fact that TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Kalulu is back on the Reds' shortlist makes plenty of sense.

"Jeremie Frimpong was then brought in, but the consensus in the Melwood offices is that a reinforcement is needed in the position," they wrote.

"This is why Juventus' Pierre Kalulu is among the Reds' shortlisted names . Kalulu is popular for his versatility and technical and athletic qualities, and is among the top names on Liverpool's radar.

"He's not the only one: Roma's Brazilian Wesley , who has been closely monitored in the Giallorossi's recent league outings, is also in the mix."

At the moment, all Liverpool's fans want to see happen is for Araujo's deal to become permanent.

Of all the Reds' summer signings, Araujo and Jeremy Jacquet have easily been the best performers .

Both players have managed to fit straight into Iraola's plans with each of them actually making Liverpool's team better.

However, since Liverpool's option to buy Araujo is £47 million, that fee seems a tad steep.

And, with someone such as Kalulu who is not only younger but also has a much better injury history available as an option, signing him instead of the Barcelona star makes sense.

Each of them can be used as a centre-back or a right-back and both have plenty of experience under their belts.

But, since Kalulu has been a regular feature for Juventus and has hardly been side-lined, the Frenchman could end up being a better option for Liverpool to explore than Araujo, even though he's already at Anfield.
