Former Rumble Ponies break Mets rookie records

QUEENS, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Former Rumble Ponies AJ Ewing and Carson Benge had stellar rookie seasons.

AJ Ewing started this season with the Ponies before getting promoted to Triple-A Syracuse, where he played 12 games before getting the call in May to the big leagues.

Ewing hit 11 homers and recorded 25 stolen bases, which broke the Mets franchise record for stolen bases by a rookie. The previous record was 24 set by Mookie Wilson in 1981.

Carson Benge played for the Ponies during the 2025 season before the team went on to win the Eastern League Championship. Benge hit 20 homers and recorded 22 stolen bases, making him the first player in Mets franchise history to achieve a 20/20 rookie season. He also set the franchise rookie record for hits with 168.
