The 2026-2027 NBA season kicks off tonight with the most expensive regular season game on record.

The reigning champion New York Knicks are set to take on LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, October 20. Add in the fact that the Knicks will receive their championship rings before the game, and you have the trifecta for sky-high ticket prices.

The highly-anticipated matchup — which is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff — had a "get-in" price of around $2,000 on TickPick less than two hours earlier.

The game breaks a decade-old record previously held by the Los Angeles Lakers versus Utah Jazz game on April 13, 2016. Fans shelled out a whopping $1,137 to be in attendance for Kobe Bryant 's final game, Forbes reported.

James, 41, shocked the sports world when he announced he would be joining the Sixers for what will likely be his final seasons in the league. Tuesday marks his first time suiting up for the Philly team.

"I thought I was done when the season ended," he shared via X on July 24. "I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and decide if I still love this game."

He continued, "This is my last decision….I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time."
