Texas A&M basketball just received a massive update regarding the status of a Texas transfer guard's preliminary injunction against the NCAA.

According to a report from TexAgs ' basketball analyst and insider Luke Evangelist , Aggie guard Jordan Pope's preliminary injunction was granted by California on Tuesday, marking a longer-term protection for his eligibility. It is a huge win for Texas A&M and second-year head coach Bucky McMillan as tipoff to the 2026-27 season looms closer.

While the war against the NCAA for gaining full eligibility is not over for Pope and many other college basketball athletes from the class of 2022, the battle has seemingly been won. The NCAA will appeal the judge's ruling, which could mean another court date being established before the season ends, but the odds of the talented guard playing a large chunk of the upcoming campaign grew much larger with this week's decision in California.

Pope spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Oregon State before transferring to Texas and playing the last two seasons with the Longhorns. He averaged 13.1 points and 1.9 assists in 29.0 minutes for Sean Miller's squad in 2025-26 and played a huge role in the program's historic run to the Sweet 16.

The former Texas guard is already making waves as one of the most impressive shooters on the floor in Texas A&M's recent scrimmages and open practices. Pope's attributes and consistency from range are a perfect fit for McMillan's high-paced, volume-shooting approach, which made a splash in the program's run to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament last season.

There may not be any more Rashaun Agee, but having shooters like Pope, PJ Haggerty and other electrifying scorers on the roster is a major advantage for the Aggies.
