5-Star SF Malachi Jordan Makes Commitment Decision Between St. John's, Kansas, Vanderbilt

Five-star forward Malachi Jordan will head to the Big Apple for his first year of college.

Jordan confirmed Tuesday to ESPN's Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello he committed to St. John's.

The 6'7" wing is the No. 20 overall player in 247Sports' composite rankings for 2027. Along with the Red Storm, Vanderbilt and Kansas made it to the finalist stage for his signature.

"Coach (Rick) Pitino has a rich history of developing players," Jordan told ESPN. "The only promise he made was that he'd help me reach my full potential. He is true to his word, and I felt like his coaching and character would help get me to the next level."

Since taking the St. John's job, Pitino hasn't hit the recruiting trail particularly hard. The Red Storm were 106th in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 cycle.

Pitino and his staff have focused more on the transfer portal, and the results speak for themselves following back-to-back 30-win seasons.

Jordan's commitment is a sign the Hall of Fame coach hasn't lost his touch on that front.

247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein evaluated the Prolific Prep star in August and called him "one of the most physically gifted prospects in the class."

"For Jordan, it's all about playing in the flow. When he's not trying to do too much, he has enough touch to make open rhythm shots, be a straight-line downhill driver, and even underrated passer," Finkelstein said. "He's also a violent finisher and lob threat whenever he can get to two feet. Conversely though, when he gets caught up in trying to prove himself, or isn't utilized correctly, he gets inefficient. So, it's not so much about his ability to see or make the right play, but more about a willingness to do it."

Jordan is the first recruit in the Red Storm's 2027 class. On his own, he gives Pitino a solid foundation before the coach turns to the portal after the season.
