Jayson Tatum said there's no "beef" between him and former teammate Jaylen Brown.
Jayson Tatum said there's no "beef" between him and former teammate Jaylen Brown.
But there should at least be some popcorn in hand for the fans when they face each other this season given the comments they have exchanged.
Here is a look at the full schedule of games between Tatum's Boston Celtics and Brown's Philadelphia 76ers this season:
Brown with an all-time summary of relationship with Tatum
Nov. 10: Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers, 8 p.m. ET
Jan. 21: Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics, 7:30 p.m. ET
Feb. 7: Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers, 7 p.m. ET
March 7: Philadelphia 76ers at Boston Celtics, 1 p.m. ET
These games would have been highly anticipated even without the comments. After all, the Celtics traded Brown to the 76ers this offseason in a move that included Paul George coming to Boston. That stars such as Tatum, LeBron James, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey will also be on the court makes these games between Eastern Conference rivals appointment viewing.
However, the comments between Tatum and Brown only add another layer.
Tatum posted a video to his YouTube channel and said he was "just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world" when Brown was traded. He added that, "Shams walks over,. He hands me the towel. He's like, 'Yo, put this over your face. Don't react. They just traded him.' I'm like, 'Oh, s--t.' I'm like, 'Where?' He said, 'Philly.' I said, 'We traded him down the street?'"
Yet Brown responded to that video with a cap emoji .
Tatum then opened up about the relationship when he told reporters Friday, "For me, I understand we're in the entertainment business. Me personally, I'm not much of an off the court entertainer type of guy. For me, I don't have any animosity or beef or ill will towards him.
"I think the frustrating part is since he's not with the Celtics anymore, the narrative or conversations haven't been enough about what we've accomplished. All the games we've won, winning a championship, how we've grown together. It's turned into this drama type of thing."
He also said he "called" and "texted" Brown the day he was traded and added, "At this point in our lives, we're too old to be having our relationship discussed X, Y, and Z like on the internet. If there's a conversation to be had, we can definitely have that."
What's more, he said, "This ain't no f--king Shaq and Kobe."
Brown was asked about those comments Saturday and told reporters, "I saw that he said, 'It's no beef.' And I think he's right, there's no beef. Jayson comes from a wonderful family, we've accomplished some great things, he's a hell of a basketball player and he's got a great PR team. It's no beef, but it might be little lamb chops and some gravy, you know what I mean? He should stay ready at all times."
He continued and said, "There's no beef, it should never ever be that. It's just basketball. We're both blessed. But it might be a little lamb chop. We'll be alright."
All of this comes after ESPN's Shams Charania previously reported the off-court relationship between the two stars was "as close to non-existent as you could have" and "a tale of two different people."
So get your popcorn ready because there could be some fireworks when the Celtics face the 76ers this season.
