The Detroit Pistons will be without big man Jalen Duren for at least two weeks.

On Sunday, the Pistons announced Duren suffered a right hamstring strain during Friday's win over the Miami Heat and "will be re-evaluated in two weeks."

The early injury this season comes after the 22-year-old was under the spotlight throughout the offseason because of his contract status.

Yet he and the Pistons eventually agreed to a five-year, $200 million deal shortly before the deadline for restricted free agents to sign a qualifying offer. The agreement came on Oct. 1 and not long before Detroit's season opener on Oct. 20.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported "there were fractures built within the player-team relationship during the business of restricted free agency." The process included Duren skipping media day and "hoping for a potential sign and trade," although he eventually agreed to the deal Detroit offered.

This is a disappointing setback for both the player and team considering the Pistons are off to a 2-0 start and Duren looked excellent before the injury.

He finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, one block and one steal in the win over the Boston Celtics and seemed on his way to a double-double with four points, six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in just 10 minutes against the Heat until he hurt his hamstring.

His early play figured to draw attention given his contract negotiations, especially since he struggled so much in the team's second-round playoff loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Duren scored fewer than 10 points in four of the seven games in that series and averaged just 7.6 rebounds, which was well below his season average of 10.5.

It seemed like he was putting those struggles behind him in the early going this season, but he will now have to wait at least two weeks before returning to the court.
