Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant says he wasn't attempting to hide in viral photos that seemingly showed him standing behind a bush outside the Malibu restaurant Nobu earlier this summer.

"You thought I was hiding behind a bush? This is insane," Durant told Speedy Morman in a Thursday appearance on Boardroom Talks . "Why would I hide behind a bush?"

Durant continued, "It made sense, it looked like I was, and then the headline was just crazy. But I don't need to hide, no. I was coming out Nobu, and it's like this tall grassy fence or whatever. I'm coming out just like everybody else."

Durant added that had he not wanted to be photographed he would not have chosen a restaurant he described as "the paparazzi capital."

The Daily Mail initially reported the photographs showed a moment in which 6-foot-11 Durant had "attempted to hide himself behind a tall bush."

Durant, who will turn 38 in September, is heading into his second season with the Houston Rockets after averaging 26 points per game last campaign.

He has spent parts of his offseason training with fellow All-Stars including Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero .
