LeBron James is not getting ahead of himself despite the Philadelphia 76ers' hot start to the 2026-27 NBA season.

The Sixers improved to 8-1 with a 112-106 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, but James told reporters that he isn't ready to look too far into the future.

"It's too early to be talking about the Finals and things of that nature on Nov. 4," James said. "So we'll continue just to buy into what we want to do. ... We got a good team. Guys vibe with one another, guys like each other, guys enjoy being around each other."

"We know we got a long way to go," James added.

Talk of a run to the NBA Finals started up due to the fact that each of the previous five times James was on a team that started the season 7-1, that team went on to reach the Finals.

After adding James and Jaylen Brown to a roster that already included Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe, the 76ers were widely tabbed as a championship contender before they even played a game this season.

Philly has been every bit as good as advertised thus far, as it holds a 1.5-game lead over the Pistons and Boston Celtics for first place in the Eastern Conference.

After previously suffering their only loss of the season thus far to the Pistons, the Sixers came to play Wednesday night in Detroit.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Sixers, including Brown with 30 points and Embiid with 26.

While James scored only 13 points, he nearly had a triple-double, as he added 10 rebounds and eight assists.

LeBron is used to being the top offensive option as the NBA's all-time leading scorer, but he settled into a complementary role with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, and that has continued this season, as he is fourth on the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game, but leads with 7.4 assists per contest.

A four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Finals MVP, James was brought in to help get the 76ers over the hump, and if they continue to play at their current level, a trip to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2001 seems quite possible.
