Veteran F DeWanna Bonner reportedly signs with Dream after contract buyout from Mercury

Free agent forward DeWanna Bonner has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Dream , per ESPN's Alexa Philippou .

The move comes after Bonner agreed to a contract buyout with the Phoenix Mercury earlier in the week. Phoenix general manager Nick U'Ren released a statement about the move, discussing how it was out of respect for the 17-year veteran.

"Because of the relationship we have with DeWanna, we worked out a buyout agreement that gives her the opportunity to chase a title in what could be her final postseason. DeWanna will always be part of the Mercury family and we wish her all the best."

Bonner was drafted by the Mercury with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft. She spent the first 11 years of her career in Phoenix. After stints with the Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever , Bonner made her return to Phoenix in 2025.

The veteran forward brings a depth of experience to the Dream roster. She has played in 572 career games and is averaging 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Atlanta is 25-13 at the time of the signing and has already locked up a playoff spot. The Dream are currently the fourth seed in the playoff picture, but that can change with six regular-season games to go.

The Dream have had a balanced attack this season, led by guards Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard , as well as star forward Angel Reese .

It remains to be seen how head coach Karl Smesko will deploy Bonner. She has the talent to be added to the starting lineup alongside Reese. Bonner would also be able to give Atlanta a boost off the bench for when Reese or fellow forward Naz Hillmon needs a break.

The Dream are on a four-game win streak. Bonner will get the chance to make her debut on Friday night at home against the Portland Fire if Smesko believes she is ready.
