Draymond Green Questions If Klay Thompson Will Fit with 'Heat Culture' After Signing Contract

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green weighed in on former teammate Klay Thompson signing with the Miami Heat following his departure from the Dallas Mavericks.

"I found it interesting when I saw they said, 'Klay going to Miami,'" Green said on The Draymond Green Show (0:36 mark). "I was like, 'Oh, that Heat Culture thing.' I don't know how that's going to work for Klay because Klay moves to the beat of his own drum. It's no maliciousness to it, it's just who Klay is and I want to see how that fits into 'Heat Culture' stuff. And so I'm looking forward to seeing how that happens."

Thompson agreed to a two-year, $11.5 million contract with Miami on Sunday.

Green and Thompson were previously teammates on the Warriors from 2012-24, winning four championships together while playing alongside Stephen Curry.

Thompson has been known for his laid-back personality and affinity for being on his boat . He was reportedly late for his introductory press conference with Miami after getting stuck in traffic.

Meanwhile, Heat president Pat Riley has been a proponent of the "Heat Culture" philosophy. The hard-working, professional mindset has been a staple of the organization and featured on a jersey in the past.

Thompson revealed that he was excited to join the culture of his new organization

"We were talking about the conditioning test last night," Thompson said Tuesday, per Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel . "So I'm happy I've got five weeks to really prepare. I've got to get my treadmill back operating. But I'm really excited just to be pushed on a fitness level that I know will be so beneficial for me for this next season.

"A lot of players warn me about how tough it is, but I like hard stuff like that. I've been through harder things. Coming back from those injuries was harder than any conditioning drill or game I had to play. In a weird way, those injuries prepared me for uncomfortable feelings and tough times. Now I take it head on and embrace them."

Thompson is coming off a 2025-26 season with Dallas in which he averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from three-point territory.
