"You acknowledge that this will end at some point," Curry told The Athletic's Nick Friedell . "Of course, you have it in the back of your mind because you know that there aren't that many years ahead.

"But we're mature enough to know you can stay in the moment and just enjoy what we're doing, what we're trying to build and whatever happens, however it plays out, this is kind of inevitable. We're close to the end, and that's just part of it, so you can have it both ways. The thoughts of the end only make the urgency now more real and more motivating, if you will, because that's all we can control."
"We're not looking at it like that at all, man," he said "I think the obvious situation is it could be it for me. Who f--king cares if that's it nine months from now? Who f--king cares eight months from now?"
Klay Thompson's free agency in 2024 was a pivot point for the Warriors and their current era. They could've re-signed the five-time All-Star, thus giving him the role and salary he wanted . Thompson, Curry and Green all could've ridden off into the sunset together.
Instead, Golden State reasonably concluded letting him walk was better for its championship aspirations.
Thompson's value has declined in the three years since he left, further justifying the decision.
By doing that, however, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made it clear he won't let emotion and sentiment drive his personnel moves. Having already broken up the Splash Brothers, he won't hesitate to move Green if the right deal arises.
Prior to the 2026 trade deadline, the five-time All-Star was linked to a blockbuster swap for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Nobody has any misconceptions about the Warriors in their present state, either. It's only the first week, but a 1-3 start provides more evidence that this isn't a championship-caliber team.
Assuming that holds true for the remainder of the year, it could impact the futures of Curry and Green. Green is a free agent next summer, while Curry has a player option for 2028-29.
That kind of lingering uncertainty, especially when you've been with the same team for your entire career, might get to some players. Curry and Green have had this hanging over them for multiple years now, so that probably influences their overall perspective.
