Knicks' NBA Cup Banner Unveiled at MSG in Photo Ahead of Ceremony Celebrating 2026 Championship

The New York Knicks are officially acknowledging their 2025 NBA Cup championship now that the franchise has followed it up with an NBA title.

The Knicks raised their NBA Cup banner ahead of Tuesday's season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, according to the New York Post 's Stefan Bondy.

The Knicks won the in-season tournament over the San Antonio Spurs in December.

SNY's Ian Begley reported shortly afterward the Knicks would not be raising an NBA Cup banner because of the franchise's focus on winning a title.

The Knicks are now expected to celebrate their June championship win over the Spurs with a ring ceremony and banner raising ahead of Tuesday's tip-off at Madison Square Garden, per Bondy .

The NBA Cup banner marks the first time the Knicks have commemorated an accomplishment in the Madison Square Garden rafters since winning a division title 2013.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks each hung celebratory banners after winning the NBA's first two in-season tournaments, SNY's Alex Smith noted. Hall of Famer Reggie Miller later speculated the Lakers had been encouraged to hang the inaugural NBA Cup banner by commissioner Adam Silver.

Both of those previous NBA Cup victors went on to lose in the first round of their respective postseasons.

The Knicks mixed things up by celebrating their own in-season championship with a ceremony , but no banner-raising, ahead of a matchup against the Sixers last December.

The Spurs and Knicks went on to play an NBA Cup rematch in the NBA Finals in June.

Brunson, who was named the NBA Cup MVP in December, also earned the title of NBA Finals MVP after setting a franchise championship series record with 45 points in a title-clinching Game 5 win.

The Knicks will now celebrate that run by hanging their first championship banner since 1973 in a ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m. ET and broadcasting on NBC and Peacock.

LeBron James will then to make his Philadelphia 76ers debut as the visiting team looks to spoil the Knicks' banner night starting at 7 p.m. ET.
