Wemby Explains What the Brain Needs 'to Have Fun' After Scoring 43 and Getting 'WemVP' Chants

Victor Wembanyama's brain is learning "pattern recognition" and what to do to "have fun" on the court as the San Antonio Spurs big man continues to dominate the NBA in his fourth season.
"It's like pattern recognition," he told reporters after Saturday's 121-111 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves that included the crowd chanting "WemVP" (30-second mark). "The brain, after playing so many games, literally hundreds of games now in the NBA, knows what kind of game to go towards to have fun.
"Because whenever we don't score, it's like negative feedback. Whenever we score, we get good results, positive feedback for the brain. Over time, you recognize patterns, and you err towards those patterns. There's always ups and downs, but we're turning in the right direction."
Wembanyama earned that positive feedback with a career-high 34 shot attempts on his way to 43 points, seven rebounds, four assists, six blocks and one steal.
He showed off his entire arsenal of weapons with three-pointers on the outside, a number of dunks around the rim and incredible shot blocking on the defensive side. The Timberwolves, who were playing without their own star in Anthony Edwards, had no chance against him for much of the contest.
San Antonio has now won four in a row following a disappointing 0-2 start with losses to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets.
Wembanyama has been aggressive on the offensive end with 29 or more points in each of his last three games, including when he poured in 36 points in an overtime victory over the Utah Jazz.
While he is just six games into the young season, he is averaging what would be a career-high 28.0 points a night and looks like an MVP in the making.
The crowd certainly thought so as he dominated the Timberwolves on Saturday.
