NBA commissioner Adam Silver doesn't believe LeBron James' means of transportation for his commute to Philadelphia merits any further scrutiny from the league for the time being.
Appearing Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show , Silver said that "there's no rules issue there whatsoever" as long as James struck a deal with Fanatics independent of any involvement from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Front Office Sports' Daniel Roberts and TMZ Sports reported earlier this month Fanatics is footing the bill for LeBron's trips as part of his endorsement deal with the company.
Fanatics founder Michael Rubin used to own a share of the Sixers but sold it in 2022.
Investigative reporter Pablo Torre, who was the first to lift the lid on the salary cap circumvention by the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard, told Roberts earlier this month that some NBA owners reached out to him to discuss James' unique situation:
The partnership between James and Fanatics far predates his move to Philadelphia. The 22-time All-Star signed an exclusive trading card deal with the company in 2024.
In terms of the helicopter specifically, Roberts noted that "a small handful of other athletes with big Fanatics deals get same access."
On the heels of the Clippers/Aspiration scandal and given Rubin's past ties to the Sixers, the questions over James' transportation setup are understandable. Everything nonetheless appears to be pretty straightforward and aboveboard.
